Hello!  My name is Matt and I have been a member of AAFS since 1995.  I have coached group skating lessons since 1998 and recently began privately teaching.  Before coaching, I was highly involved as a competitor, twice winning the Pacific Coast Sectional title and placing as high as 6th at the U.S. National Championships.  Additionally, I was the 1999 National Collegiate Champion, and as well competed twice in the North American Challenge Skate series, earning a silver medal for the U.S. I currently skate at the highest level of U.S. Figure Skating, senior – having passed my Gold test in both Moves in the Field and Freeskating.  To this day, you can still find me competing and skating in shows occasionally.  In addition to competing, exhibiting and teaching, I spent six years working as a Judge for U.S. Figure Skating.  Highlights include officiating events such as the Junior National Championships, numerous Regional and Sectional Championships, and trial judging the State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Above all else, it is my goal to remain actively involved with skating, promoting the sport in its many forms.  This is evidenced in part by my current role as Vice President of the Alaska Association of Figure Skaters.  Most important to me is watching as students progress, learn new skills, compete, exhibit as well as build lifelong social skills. I constantly try to allow skating to remain fun and enjoyable so that students remember their experiences in a positive and motivating way. My email address is usamatt@hotmail.com
