Born and raised in Alaska, Chrystal Reed has been a member of the Alaska Association of Figure Skaters (AAFS) since its foundation in 1990.  She has coached group skating lessons since 1993 and private skating lessons since 1997.  Her students have competed in many local and out-of-state competitions, including the Northwest Pacific Coast Regional Championships and the ISI World Recreational Team Championships.  She specializes in choreography, jumps & spins, power, moves in the field and off-ice training, including stretching, conditioning & dance. Chrystal is a member of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA), U.S. Figure Skating (USFS), and the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), where she serves as an ISI gold level figure skating Judge.  Since 1992, Chrystal has volunteered with Special Olympics Alaska, coaching and coordinating local and state competitions. She is currently the AAFS Ice Show Chairperson and AAFS Basic Skills Director for group classes and competitions. As a skater, Chrystal competed and performed in shows for 13 years.  She has skated at the highest level in U.S. Figure skating passing both gold level tests in moves in the field and freeskating. She has represented Alaska at the Arctic Winter Games, the Northwest Pacific Coast Regional Championships, the Pacific Coast Sectional Championships, and the National Collegiate Championships.  She was coached and mentored by Vladimir Kaprov. Chrystal graduated from Dimond High School and has degrees in Psychology and Business Administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage.  She also was the 1997 recipient of the Ice Skating Institute Education Foundation Scholarship, for excellence in academics and skating.  She has twice been named skater of the year by the Alaska Association of Figure Skaters in 1993 & 1998.  In 2004 she was named Alaska Association of Figure Skaters Volunteer of the Year. Outside of figure skating, Chrystal works as the facility manger for the Dimond Center Ice Chalet.  She was named Miss Anchorage 1997 and was first runner-up to Miss Alaska 1997.  As Miss Anchorage she traveled to Japan as Sister-City tourism ambassador.  She played three years of hockey for the UAA Women’s Club Team winning the state championship in 2002. Chrystal plays quite an active role in the skating community.  Her coaching encourages skaters to have a good work ethic and build confidence in and out of skating.  Her goal is to promote all aspects of skating in a fun and rewarding way.   Email her at fissy@alaska.com
